Album Discovery #13 – ATB – Contact

It has been awhile since I updated this blog (a little over a month), but I am still following through with my mission to discover and listen to 500 EDM albums I’ve never heard before this year.  This one is #13 on my 2016 music listening journey on Spotify.  I’m going to try and make some effort this month to makr more updates as I’ve listened to over 70 albums so far and I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

32 songs – 2 hrs 56 min – Electronic – 2014

Discovered on Monday, March 1st, 2015, at around 7:40 a.m. while at work after listening to Ferry Corsten’s Solar Serenades Mix album.

Favorite Tracks:

When It Ends It Starts Again
Now Or Never
What Are You Waiting For
Red Sun
Cursed By Beauty

After listening final thoughts:

I would describe this album as a dream machine, and that isn’t a bad thing. This album has a lot of slow tempo, almost dream-like type music that makes it a relaxing listen, and would be a great album to fall asleep to.  I did manage to find a few more uptempo songs to like, although I would reserve listening to it for when I’m in a chilled out mood or looking to get into one.  The album has some nice remixes on it.  Check it out.  I know you will enjoy it.

Album Discovery #12 – Ferry Corsten – Solar Serenades

16 songs – 3 hrs 4 min – Electronic – 1998

Discovered on Monday morning, March 1st, 2009 at around 5:10 a.m. while at work.

Favorite Tracks:

I didn’t list any favorite tracks because as I found out this album is a progressive trance album which means no lyrics… just very upbeat trance music, therefore while I enjoyed the music, none of the tracks made me stop to see what the song title was.  Also the reason it’s so long is because this is a dj mix album and it contains all the tracks in the mix seperately, and then there is Ferry’s mix at the end.  I don’t know if it’s the same way on the actual album or if that is just a feature from Spotify.  The album is available on Amazon but I didn’t read up too much on details.  I enjoyed the album although as I’ve said before I prefer tunes with lyrics.  Maybe I have a likeness for progressive trance I didn’t know about.

Album Discovery #11 – Andain – You Once Told Me

19 songs – 1 hr 45 min – Dance/Electronic – 2012

Discovered on Tuesday morning, March 1st, 2016 while at work and early on in my shift at around 12:50.  This was the first album I decided to check out for the night after listening to BT’s Electronic Opus album.

Favorite Tracks:

Turn Up The Sound
Much Too Much
Ave Maria
Forget Your Face
Summer Calling
Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix)

Final thoughts:  I enjoyed this album all the way through although it wasn’t as fast paced as I’d thought it would be considering this band was among the same genre as the last two albums I’d listened to (BT’s Electronic Opus and Armin Van Buuren’s Embrace).  I didn’t skip any tracks and found some good tracks on the album.  I highly recommend to give it a listen.  I would say this is a new favorite album for me as well, although I would really have to be in a chilled out mood to want to listen to it.  I didn’t really care for the last track on the album which was a crazy remix of Turn Up The Sound.

So I have decided to make it a goal this year in 2016 to discover and listen to at least 500 albums I’ve never heard before and post them on this blog.  It’s for no other purpose really other than broadening my knowledge of good music and finding great recommendations.  This post makes 11 so far so I’ve got a lot of searching and listening to do.

Album Discovery #10 – Dash Berlin – The New Daylight (Extended Versions)

14 songs – 1 hr 52 min – Electronic – 2009

Discovered on Monday morning, March 1st, 2016 at 3:00 a.m. while at work.

There are three versions of this album on Spotify.  The regular version, the extended version, and the remix version.  I chose to listen to the extended version because I’ve loved extended song versions since I was a teenager back in the 80’s.  There’s just something about extended versions that make a song so much better.  It’s like finding less known side trails on your music journey you can’t find by staying on the main road.

Favorite Tracks:

Til The Sky Falls Down (Extended Mix)
Man On The Run (Extended Mix)
Wired (Extended Mix)
Waiting (Extended Mix)
Never Cry Again (Extended Mix)
End Of Silence (Extended Mix)

After listening final thoughts:  I enjoyed the album.  I especially liked that for such a long album the tunes were energetic enough to keep me listening.  I only skipped one track during the entire play.  I would definitely listen to it again.  Another album to add to my favorites.

14 songs – 1 hr 13 min – Various Artists – Dance/Breakbeat(?)

Discovered on Monday morning, February 29th, 2015 at 1:03 a.m. while at work.

This album is a bunch of drum beats and noise tracks.  Not really my style of music since I prefer stuff with more lyric content.  That doesn’t mean it’s a bad album.  It just means it wasn’t what I expected.  I listened to nearly the whole thing.  There’s some good beats to dance to if you’re in the mood for it.

Favorite tunes on the album:

I didn’t have any favorite tracks.

20 songs – 1 hr 3 min – Trance – 2014

Discovered and started listening to on Sunday morning, February 28th, 2015 at 5:08 a.m. while at work.  After hearing his Embrace album I wanted to hear some more of his stuff.

Favorite tunes on the album:

This Is What It Feels Like
In And Out Of Love
Burned With Desire
Feels So Good

6:21 a.m. Final thoughts… This album is ok, though it didn’t grab me like the Embrace album did.  Don’t let that stop you from giving it a listen.  It wouldn’t be on this blog if I didn’t recommend it.

Post #4 – Armin Van Buuren – Embrace

15 songs – 2015 – 1 hr 14 min – Dance/Trance

Discovered on and started listening to on Sunday morning, February 28th, 2015 at 3:06 a.m. while at work.

Favorite tunes on the album:

Another You
Strong Ones
Face Of Summer
Heading Up High
Gotta Be Love
Hands To Heaven
Caught In The Slipstream
Embargo (omg the first minute and a half I felt like this dude was fuckin’ with me – but in a good way, like something cool was coming… I found myself thinking “Come at me bro.  Bring it bitch!” and then the bass line and full melody came in and I was like ahhhh yes!!!!.
Old Skool (a fun tribute to old school techno)
Off The Hook (this track really is!)

4:35 a.m.  Final thoughts on this album… I did not want this album to end.  It’s been a long time that an album carried me on a journey of happiness, smiles, and pure joy.  It’s also been a long time that I heard and favorited so many songs in the set. It is a definite newfound treasure among my list of favorite albums.  5 stars all the way!!!
